Arrival in the Caribbean

12/06/2010 12:00 by Thorsten Böhnke

After 15 days and 13 hours we reached the first island in the Caribbean, Barbados.

As our tight schedule allowed for only a short stay, we explored the island in one day. At one time, before it was colonized, the island was nearly completely covered by rainforest. Unfortunately, most of the forest has since been cleared for the extensive cultivation of sugar cane.

We filmed in the legendary Harrison’s Cave, a dripstone (stalactite) cave on Barbados. This island is itself a former coral reef.

On Sunday, December 5 we left Carlisle Bay on Barbados and set course for the island of St. Lucia. We fastened our lines in the marina of Rodney Bay the next day, December 6, at 11:30 a.m. local time.
